The Under 11s coaching sessions are held on Fridays evenings. The Under 11s coach is John Akrigg.

The U11s play Gordon Bowers cricket: Teams consist of 10 children, who bat in pairs, with each pair facing 2 overs. The score starts with 200 runs & runs are added as normal, and 'outs' merely subtract 8 runs from the total (the batter plays on). With the exception of the wicket-keeper all players bowl at least 2 overs.

Match Reports

Haworth West End (H) - 7th May 2009

An impressive start to the season saw our u11s victorious by a 66-run margin at home against Haworth West End. Batting first Haworth could not come to term with the bowling of Ceri Holland (3-9) Connor Meegan (2-0) & Will Pinder (1-0) and could only muster 194 runs for 8 wickets, thanks mainly to a top-score of 7 runs by Stowell. Bradley Akrigg was impressive in the field with a catch and a run out. Haworth's total was bolstered by 47 extras - mainly from wides (24) and no-balls (8). In reply Steeton put together several impressive knocks with Andrew Briggs (14) top-scoring with 3 fours. Connor Meegan (12), Matthew Klava (12), Ceri Holland (13), Will Pinder (10), Dominic Meehan (8) & Ryan Birch (8) all were impressive with the bat. Steeton only lost 5 wickets and so finished with an excellent 260 runs. An impressive win by 66 runs, but work still needs to be done to reduce bowling extras, if we are going to triumph against stronger opposition.

Wharfedale Rams (A) - 14th May 2009

Steeton U11's impressive start to the season continued with 62 run victory at Upper Wharfedale. Batting first Wharfedale were restricted well to 249 runs which when adjusted for 4 dismissals brought the target score down to 217 runs. Mason Halopin bowled 2 overs which only conceded 4 wides as he took 1 wicket, and equally successful was Morgan Robinson who also took 1 wicket and conceded just 1 run off the bat and 1 no-ball & 2 wides. The other wickets fell to Atif Modak (1-4) & Bradley Akrigg (1-13), who both bowled 3 overs and both only had 1 extra each. The wides total was 12 - a great improvement on last week's match. The fielding point was awarded to skipper & keeper Ryan Birch. Steeton's reply was built on preserving their wickets - which they managed well being dismissed only twice. Top-scorer for Steeton was Bradley Akrigg, who scored 16 runs not out, and Oliver Scott-Crawford was close behind with 10 runs not out. Other impressive batters were Dominic Meehan (7), Ryan Birch (7), Will Pinder (6) & Mason Halopin (5). All the Steeton batsmen managed at least 1 run, and they were greatly assisted by 24 wides. Steeton's batting total was 295 runs, which when adjusted for 2 dismissals gave a total of 279 runs. So Steeton won by 62 runs.

Ceri Holland & Bradley Akrigg both took catches & were awarded the fielding points. With a top-score of just 5 runs Bingley Congs batsmen needed the 16 runs donated from wides to bring their batting total to 230 runs, but when this is adjusted for 8 dismissals it brought the Bingley total to 166 runs. Steeton win by a fantastic 136 runs.

Earby (A) - 17th June 2009 in the Barritt-Stephenson Cup

Steeton batted first and lost Dominic Meehan (1) clean bowled early. Connor Meegan scored 7 runs including 1 four before he was run out. At No3 Ceri Holland was a steadying influence with 20 runs retired and 2 boundaries. Skipper Bradley Akrigg hit 3 fours in his unbeaten innings of 16* runs not out. Will Pinder was also run out for 6 runs with 1 four, and Oliver Scott-Crawford (0*) was not out, but did not have time to get off the mark. Steeton had scored 55 runs for 3 wickets in 20 overs. A strong Earby side lost their opener clean bowled by Steeton's captain Bradley Akrigg, who took 1 wicket for 4 runs from 2 overs. Unfortunately he was the only successful Steeton bowler. For Earby Marra (20*) retired as they passed the Steeton target in 11.3 overs. Earby had scored 57 runs for the loss of 1 wicket, and so Steeton lost by 9 wickets and are out of the Cup for the 2009 season.

Haworth West End (A) - 28th June 2009

Steeton U11s continued their fabulous season with another victory, this time at Haworth West End. The pick of the bowlers were Ceri Holland (2-9) & Bradley Akrigg, who took 2 wickets each; and there was a single wicket each for Andrew Briggs (1-10), Morgan Robinson (1-2) & Will Pinder (1-3). All the bowlers must be commended for only bowling 7 wides & 3 no-balls - a very consistent effort! Keeper Ryan Birch had a stumping and a run out, and Bradley Akrigg took a catch & also had a run-out. Haworth had scored 286 runs, but had lost 7 wickets, so their adjusted score was 230 runs for 7 wickets. Steeton's batting was unspectacular, but most were not out. Top-scorer was Dominic Meehan, who hit 3 boundaries in a score of 18 runs not out. Alex Briggs scored 11 runs, which included 1 four; and Will Pinder hit 2 fours for his 11 runs, but was out once. Steeton record their 2nd biggest win of the season - triumphing by 111 runs.

Cullingworth (H) - 9th July 2009

Steeton U11s snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in a very tight match at home against Cullingworth. Steeton's batsmen had scored 60 runs & been given 23 extras giving a batting total of 283 runs, but having lost 7 wickets meant the adjusted total was 227 runs. Steeton lost by 1 run, and must rue giving away so many wides as well as losing so many wickets.

Settle (A) - 12th July 2009

Having lost by 1 runs last match, Steeton U11s inflicted the same result on Settle. In another nail-biting match Steeton were victorious by a single run. Overall Steeton's bowling was much better, with only 10 wides, and the bowlers to collect wickets were Connor Meegan (1-12) & Morgan Bridge (1-7). Connor Meegan & Bradley Akrigg both ran out Settle batsmen & earned themselves fielding points. Keeper Ryan Birch took a catch. With tight Settle bowling the early Steeton batting pairs struggled to score runs with & had lost 4 wickets. Only Bradley Akrigg (8 with 1 four) & Connor Meegan (5) had made any significant scoring. As the last batting pair strode to the wicket it did not look good for Steeton, but Will Pinder (7) & Ryan Birch (10 with 1 four) batted superbly and were not out. In a tight finish Steeton scored 43 runs & were given 18 in extras making a batting total of 261 runs, which when adjusted for the 4 dismissals gave them a final total of 229 runs - and a 1-run victory.
