Summary
Overseas player for 2011 was Australian Shane McNamara, who made a great start with 156* runs on debut, and finished with 3 centuries fro the club. Shane's consistent scoring was instrumental in helping Steeton gain promotion to the 1st division. Steeton 1st XI had further centuries from John Akrigg & Chris Luxton, but it was the consistent hitting of Mark Taylor, which earned him the 1st XI batting award. Mark consistently scored at over 7 runs per over at vital parts of matches and ended with an average in the league of 72. Jon Best had a great season with the ball finishing with 63 wickets, but the bowling award went to youngster Ross Suri. New keeper Dominic Bennett also had a good season and finished with 38 victims (30 in the league). It is a measure of the ambition of Steeton CC that 2011 was seen as a disappointing season...our 1st XI were 'only' promoted, being pipped for the 2nd division champions spot in the very last match of the season. Our 2nd XI also had a disappointing season 'only' finishing 5th in the 1st division. Many clubs would regard such a season as the pinnacle of achievement! In the 2nd XI batting the award was fought out between Julian Higginson, skipper Hayden Tennant & Mick Wilson...going narrowly to Julian Higginson. Our 2nd XI's batting was inconsistent, and too often capitulated to low scores. Young off-spinner Zach Pearson had a great season and finished with 58 wickets...closely followed by James Emmott with 56 wickets, who once again took the bowling award. Both our 1st XI and 2nd XI had good cup runs, but both exited at the semi-final stage...again a disappointment at Steeton, which would be regarded as a fantastic achievement at many clubs!
