Graham M. Harrison (1963-2023)
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden death of former Steeton player Graham Harrison. Our thoughts are with his family: wife Karen, children Michael & Rebecca and his many grand-children.
Between 1983 and 2015 total Graham played a total of 372 games for Steeton CC and was captain on 66 occasions.
On the cricket field Graham was a ‘larger-than-life’ character and if he was still batting then no match was ever a foregone defeat. Many is the time when Graham’s six-hitting power turned probable defeat into remarkable victory.
With the bat Graham scored 3 centuries his biggest score being 129 runs at home against Illingworth in 1992. In his Steeton career Graham scored 7,448 runs at an average of almost 30 runs/innings and he hit a remarkable 302 sixes. Until 2015 he held the 2nd XI club record of 30 runs scored in a single over and he still holds the club record number of 254 career sixes hit in 2nd XI cricket.
Graham was also an effective bowler who collected a total of 83 wickets for Steeton with best figures of 4-13 at Skipton in 1996. Graham’s big hands rarely spilled a catch and he took 126 catches in his Steeton career.
Anyone who ever played cricket with Graham will have a story to tell of his heroic feats…and most of the stories will not need to be overly embellished!
He will be sadly missed.
